Dr Robert Anderson is a cardiologist and PhD research fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Royal Melbourne Hospital through the University of Melbourne (supervised by Professor Jonathan Kalman, Associate Professor Geoffrey Lee and Associate Professor Saurabh Kumar). He is fortunate to be supported by a combined NHMRC/National Heart Foundation postgraduate research scholarships and Royal Australasian College of Physicians NHMRC Woolcock Scholarship. He is also an honorary electrophysiology fellow at Westmead Hospital and research affiliate at the University of Sydney. His research studies are focused on improving the diagnosis of idiopathic ventricular tachycardia (VT), mechanisms responsible for VT in structural heart disease, novel catheter-based technology to assess substrate characterisation and catheter ablation techniques to achieve substrate homogenisation.

Dr Robert Anderson completed his BMedSci and MBBS with 1st class honours at the University of Tasmania in 2009, winning multiple academic awards, college medals and academic excellence awards including the Andrew Platts Internal Medicine Prize, William and Beatrice Taylor Scholarship and the Young Investigator award from the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. He completed his cardiology advanced training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with final year training at St. Vincent’s Hospital and University Hospital Geelong. He was admitted as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2017 prior to commencing PhD studies in 2018. His study on focal VT in structural heart disease won the Young Investigator Award at the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society in 2019.
