An internationally respected Electrophysiologist, Professor Jonathan Kalman is one of the leading heart rhythm experts in Australia. Professor Kalman is head of the Royal Melbourne Heart Rhythm department which is internationally renowned for the high quality of clinical medicine and investigative research performed.
Associate Professor Neil Strathmore trained at the University of Melbourne, Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has been a member of the RMH Cardiology Department since 1991. He has a wide interest in Cardiology and in training junior doctors. He is particularly interested in arrhythmias, especially the management of Atrial Fibrillation and Bradycardias.
A/Prof Geoff Lee is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist with a joint appointment in the Department of Cardiology at Melbourne Health and the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. He specializes in complex mapping and AF and VT ablation.
Dr Joe Morton is a senior cardiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is heavily committed to maintaining the long standing status of the RMH as a centre of excellence for arrhythmia management through his involvement in all aspects of clinical cardiac electrophysiology including complex catheter ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac pacing and resynchronisation therapy.
Dr Irene Stevenson is a cardiologist and arrhythmia specialist. She completed her medical degree at the University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital and went on to specialist training in cardiology at Box Hill Hospital and The Alfred Hospital. This was followed by a clinical fellowship year in electrophysiology at Monash Medical Centre prior to commencing a higher degree at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Dr Gareth Wynn read both Medicine and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Manchester in the UK and completed a Doctor of Medicine (Research) degree, entitled “Improving ablation outcomes in atrial fibrillation: improving procedural efficacy, safety, and patient selection”, at Imperial College London, ranked one of the top ten universities in the World.
Bhupesh Pathik graduated from the University of Tasmania with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with First Class Honours. He completed his Basic Physician Training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Advanced Training in Cardiology at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide. He subsequently completed a PhD at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and University of Melbourne evaluating the mechanisms of atrial arrhythmias using novel 3D mapping techniques under the supervision of Professor Kalman and A/Prof Geoff Lee. He was awarded the prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and National Heart Foundation (NHF) Postgraduate Research Scholarship and Margorie Hooper Scholarship to undertake this research. His research has been presented at national and international meetings and published in leading international journals.
Professor Jitendra Vohra is a Cardiologist/Electrophysiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) in Melbourne, Australia. He established the Electrophysiology Service and introduced Radiofrequency ablation for cardiac arrhythmias at the RMH and implanted the first Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in Australia in 1984.
Dr Michael Wong graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2003. He undertook Physician and General Cardiology training at Austin Health before pursuing further sub-specialisation in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Austin, then subsequently at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Dr Harry Mond is an Associate Professor at both Melbourne and Monash Universities in Victoria, Australia. He completed his cardiac fellowship in 1974 at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia and has been performing pacemaker implantation since 1970 at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has authored three books, numerous book chapters and over 260 published manuscripts.
